Lonesome Creek Station, located west of Watford City, North Dakota, moved closer to providing 45 additional megawatts (MW) of electricity to Basin Electric's generation portfolio.
Lonesome Creek Station Unit 6 achieved first fire on Aug. 2. First fire means natural gas flowed into the gas turbine and was ignited for the first time. The unit completed about six hours of operation to burn out the gas path before loading the catalyst.
Lonesome Creek Station Unit 6 is adjacent to five existing turbines at the site. Once the unit is online, which is planned for late-August, the plant's total generation capacity will be 270 MW.
