Maintenance work underway at Great Plains Synfuels Plant

Fall maintenance turnaround activities began Oct. 7 with portions of Dakota Gasification Company’s Great Plains Synfuels Plant coming out of service. Activities are focused on the S-Riley boiler (one of the plant’s three boilers), ammonia plant, and urea plant, with more than 750 maintenance work orders set to be completed during the scheduled three-week maintenance turnaround.

According to Brian Dillman, Dakota Gas maintenance manager, the maintenance turnaround plan has a very aggressive schedule. “Our main threats to staying on schedule hinge on the weather − mostly the wind − with the crane lifts we need to complete, as well as congestion with several big jobs in the same areas.”

All units are expected to be back in service by Oct. 30.
