Basin Electric is committed to supporting and encouraging the U.S. Military and their employees that are currently or previously in active duty. July 25 is National Hire a Veteran Day, a day created as a call to action for hiring companies, and to encourage veteran job applicants. To celebrate this day, Basin Electric veterans were asked questions about their time in the military, and what it means to work for a cooperative that greatly supports their employees.
Keith Nordlund, operations technician at Pioneer Generation Station
Question: Why did you decide to join the U.S. Military and protect/defend our country?
Answer: I joined the Marines because my best friend did. We had always said we were going to be Marines together, and one day he told me he signed up, so I called the recruiter and joined the next day.
Q: Before joining Basin Electric, did you know the cooperative had a reputation for hiring veterans?
A: I did not know about the reputation for hiring veterans, but I had seen it on the website.
Q: What does it mean to you that Basin Electric is a strong military supporter?
A: Working for a strong military supporter means a lot to me. Knowing my employer supports veterans shows they have the same values as I do, and they value commitment to others.
Q: Is it significant to you that you work with other veterans?
A: Working with other veterans is a big bonus for me. Knowing the people I work with have similar experiences, training, and values is comforting and makes the work environment better.
Q: Why would you encourage other veterans to work at Basin Electric?
A: Basin Electric provides a low stress environment where you can continue to serve not only your local communities, but a large part of the nation.
Jolene Johnson, Security and Response Services manager at Headquarters

A: Knowing that I work for a company that is a huge supporter of our military makes me even more proud of where I work and who I work for.

A: There is a certain comradery above any other that I have found working with and around my fellow veterans.
