Basin Electric schedules open houses for proposed transmission project

Basin Electric will host two public open houses in September to gather feedback on its proposed Leland Olds Station (LOS)-to-Burkley-to-Crane Creek 345-kilovolt (kV) transmission project. The project includes approximately 118 miles of new high-voltage transmission line and a substation designed to strengthen grid reliability in central and northwest North Dakota.

The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) approved the project through its 2024 Integrated Transmission Planning study process. In 2025, SPP issued Basin Electric an Approved Reliability Network upgrade notice, designating Basin Electric as the designated transmission owner for the project.

Public Open House Schedule

  • Wednesday, Sept. 16, 6-8 pm CT
South Prairie School, 100 177th Ave SW, Minot, North Dakota
  • Thursday, Sept. 17, 6-8 pm CT
Mountrail County Plaza Complex, 4161 64th Ave NW, Plaza, North Dakota

"The proposed project is designed to strengthen the transmission system in northwest North Dakota and support the region's growing electricity needs," Basin Electric project coordinator Megan Milbradt said. "It will help reduce transmission congestion, improve system reliability, and provide additional capacity for future growth in the Minot area."
