Dakota Gas receives recertification for Responsible Care

Dakota Gasification Company’s (Dakota Gas) facility, the Great Plains Synfuels Plant, recently received its Responsible Care Management System recertification. This is the fifth time the facility has been certified since 2010, with certifications occurring every three years.

The American Chemistry Council developed and maintains a set of standards Dakota Gas must follow in order to receive its certification, a condition of membership in the Responsible Care® program. The audit necessary to receive the recertification was completed in January.

“The certification is awarded by the external service provider who performs the audit, and Dakota Gas then reports the status of its certification to the American Chemistry Council annually,” said Chris Breiner, Dakota Gas compliance program supervisor.

Responsible Care® is a voluntary program to achieve improvements in environmental, health, security, and safety performance beyond levels required by the U.S. government. The program has resulted in significant reductions in releases to air, land, and water; major improvements in workplace and community safety; and expanded programs to research and test chemicals for potential health and environmental impacts.
