ENGIE North America’s North Bend Wind project began commercial operation on Dec. 22, 2023. Basin Electric has a 25-year power purchase agreement to purchase the output of the approximately 200-megawatt wind project.
The project consists of 71 wind turbines on about 47,000 acres located in Hughes and Hyde counties in South Dakota, inside Basin Electric’s service area.
The output from North Bend Wind will provide an addition to Basin Electric’s renewable energy mix, adding to its diverse energy portfolio, which provides affordable generation to support the needs of its 141 member cooperatives across nine states.
“The North Bend Wind agreement provides affordable, renewable power for Basin Electric to help serve our members’ growing energy needs,” Kayla Fitterer, Basin Electric planning analyst, said.
