Basin Electric and employees give more than $115,000 to local charities

For Cooperative Month this October, Basin Electric employees let their cooperative spirit shine for the annual cooperative-wide employee fundraising campaign. The fundraiser, called Commitment to Community Campaign, benefits the United Way and other local charities that were voted on by employees.

This year, employees raised $39,260.50 through pledges plus $8,117 in additional donations. With Basin Electric’s match, this brought the donation to $94,755.

As another part of the fundraiser, employees were able to send a candy bar to a coworker, called Candy for a Cause. This year, employees purchased more candy than ever before; 10,395 candy bars were sold for $2 each, bringing in an additional $20,790.

“One of the cooperative principles we were founded on is Concern for Community, and I’m grateful for the ways our team at Basin Electric brings this principle to life. The sincere concern they express for the people in our communities is inspiring,” said Todd Brickhouse, Basin Electric interim CEO and general manager. “I’m very proud of what we accomplished during this year’s Commitment to Community Campaign knowing that it will make a big impact on many people’s lives.”

Employees at facilities located in a community without a United Way chapter designated a local charity or nonprofit organization to receive their pledges. Funds pledged by employees located in a community served by United Way will be directed to the local United Way and agencies supported by it.
