Basin Electric announces large load commercial program

In collaboration with its membership, Basin Electric has developed a Large Load Program designed to ensure that the costs and risks associated with serving new large electric loads are not passed on to its existing membership

As these non-traditional loads can drive significant investments in generation and transmission infrastructure, the program requires those requesting service to bear the financial responsibility for the resources needed to serve them.

“Some of the key benefits for the development of the large load commercial program are to allow Basin Electric to flexibly serve new large loads in a manner that does not cause undue rate pressure on the membership,” Dan Gallagher, vice president of Commercial Operations, said. “Additionally, this program will ensure that stranded asset risk associated with building new resources is mitigated.”

The program provides clear and consistent guidance for members navigating large load requests and was adopted by Basin Electric’s Board of Directors in June 2025.

The large load commercial program opened to applications on June 13.
