Cooperative goals guide Basin Electric team priorities in 2026

Basin Electric is keeping its workforce aligned with three cooperative goals that continue to anchor the organization’s priorities: safety, reliability, and affordability.

These core focus areas remain central to Basin Electric’s mission of delivering reliable, cost-effective electricity to member-owners in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. While the goals themselves remain consistent, the cooperative continues to refine how success is measured to better meet evolving challenges and opportunities.

“We’ve maintained a strong focus on these goals over the years, but we’re always looking at ways to sharpen our metrics and target to improve how we achieve them,” Andy Buntrock, vice president of Strategic Planning and Communications, said.

The three cooperative goals are closely tied to the five strategic objectives set by Basin Electric’s board of directors, which include execution of the Dakota Gas plan, financial performance and agility, load growth and rate design, people focus, and portfolio strategy. These strategic objectives and the metrics and targets that support them, were developed collaboratively between senior leadership and the board.

Across the organization, employees receive regular communication about the goals, along with clear connections between their roles and the cooperative’s broader mission. Incentives are also aligned to reinforce progress and outcomes.

“Because these three cooperative goals and five strategic objects are so critical to our success, it’s important that every employee understands them and sees how their work impacts our members,” Buntrock said. “That shared focus helps us stay aligned and deliver on what matters most to the member at the end of the line.”

The Strategic Plan combines the three cooperative goals and five strategic objectives into a unified framework that guides Basin Electric’s direction and supports its commitment to serving member-owners.
