Dakota Gasification Company's phenol, also known as carbolic acid, is an aromatic organic compound with the molecular formula C6H5OH. It is a colorless to light pink, deliquescent (absorbs moisture from the air and becomes liquid) crystalline material with a sweet, tarry smell. Dakota Gas purifies its phenol from the gas liquor stream produced during the gasification process.
- Production up to 28 million pounds annually.
- The majority of Dakota Gas' phenol is sold into the phenolic resin market.
- Dakota Gas' phenol is created from naturally occurring coal in which the process has fewer emissions than synthetically produced phenol.
